MainStage 3 Installing: A Nostalgic Look Back at Older Macs

As we move forward in time, it's easy to forget about older technology that once played a significant role in our lives. For music enthusiasts like myself, the MainStage 3 software has been an integral part of my creative process for years. Recently, I found myself reminiscing about my trusty old MacBook Pro (2009 model) and the experiences we shared.

I've always been drawn to finding great deals on older Macs, and last week was no exception. Unfortunately, a potential find for $100 slipped through my fingers as the seller never responded. Nevertheless, this got me thinking about my current setup and the need for a reliable, portable solution that can run High Sierra and MainStage 3.

My main MacBook Pro (2009 model) is still in good condition and has been a faithful companion throughout the years. Although it's no longer my primary work machine, I continue to use it for specific tasks like running BIAB in my home studio and tracking music. However, with the latest LPX software requiring High Sierra, I'm considering upgrading.

The reasons behind Apple's decision to drop support for older Macs are more technical than purely age-based. While some may argue that 7 years is a reasonable cutoff point, I believe there's still life left in these devices. In my case, I've refurbished my mid-2010 MacBook Pro with an SSD, 8GB of RAM, and a new battery, allowing it to run music applications exclusively.

Nowadays, I'm exploring controller/VI (Virtual Instrument) route for live performances, which has led me to reconsider investing in the latest iPad and apps like Korg Module with its Ivory/Scarbee add-ons. Although this change in approach has simplified my setup, I still appreciate the nostalgia of using MainStage 3 on an older Mac.

In conclusion, while it's true that Apple may not support older Macs beyond a certain point, it doesn't mean we can't continue to use them for our creative endeavors. With proper maintenance and upgrades, these machines can still serve us well, even if it means running High Sierra instead of the latest operating system. For me, the memories and experiences I've had with my trusty old MacBook Pro are worth preserving, making MainStage 3 installing a worthwhile endeavor.
